It’s time for a new WFTL tribute website. You’ve probably seen the websites that feature the top-40 stations of the ‘50’s and ‘60’s well this one is devoted to an adult, middle of the road, full-service radio station WFTL which was a very big part of Broward County. WFTL was many things to many different people. A friendly voice with good family entertainment, an information leader reporting the facts quickly and honestly.
There were many different facets of WFTL through the years and I’m trying to research some interesting things. For one thing there was a WFTL 23 at one time, not radio but a UHF TV station that featured programming from the NBC and DuMont Television networks from 1954 till 1957.
I have also found pictures of a WFTL building that predates the Time Square studios. The location might be the old transmitter site on SE 15th Street but I’m not sure.
This site is also dedicated to the many friends I made at WFTL who I remember fondly. They showed me the ropes and always answered my questions no matter how dumb!
Watch this space, as things develop!
